Boston, Massachusetts — The Boston region is set to enjoy a largely sunny and calm Saturday before a weak weather system brings increasing clouds tonight and the potential for light snow on Sunday, according to forecasters.
Meteorologists with the National Weather Service report that much of eastern Massachusetts will see plenty of sunshine through the daytime hours today. Afternoon temperatures are expected to remain seasonable for early January, generally ranging from the upper 20s to low 30s across the region.
By late evening and overnight, cloud cover will gradually increase as a weather system approaches from the west. Overnight temperatures will dip to near or slightly below freezing, setting the stage for possible snow development on Sunday.
Light Snow Possible Sunday, Minimal Accumulation Expected
Forecasters say Sunday’s system may produce periods of light snow across parts of eastern Massachusetts, including the Boston metro area. At this time, snowfall amounts are expected to be limited, with most locations seeing little more than a light coating on grassy and untreated surfaces.
While no significant winter storm impacts are anticipated, officials caution that brief slick spots could develop on roads, especially during early morning or evening hours when temperatures hover near freezing.

The National Weather Service emphasized that widespread disruptions are unlikely with this system. However, commuters and travelers are advised to remain alert for changing road conditions, particularly on bridges, overpasses, and secondary roads where light snow may accumulate briefly.
Sunday’s daytime highs are forecast to stay near the freezing mark, which supports snow rather than rain if precipitation occurs. Any snow that does fall is expected to taper off relatively quickly, with conditions improving later in the day.
