Bond Raised to $1m for Texas Lady Accused of Trying to Drown Herself, Which is Being Looked at as a Possible Hate Crime

EULESS, Texas — A woman from Texas is accused of trying to drown a 3-year-old in an apartment pool in a suburban Dallas area after making racist comments about the child’s mother. According to court records, she was taken again after her bond was raised to $1 million.

Elizabeth Wolf, who is 42 years old, was freed on a $40,000 bond after being charged with attempted murder and child harm. Police in Euless, a suburb of Dallas, say that on May 19, Wolf tried to kill the child and got into a fight with the child’s mother while “very drunk.”

The mother of the child told police that Wolf made racial comments about her and said she wasn’t American.

Police said Wolf was arrested again after her bond was raised after a court meeting last week.

Tarrant County records show that Wolf stayed in jail in Fort Worth on Wednesday.

Wolf’s lawyer did not answer the phone right away Wednesday when asked for comment.

The Texas chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations said in a statement that it was glad Wolf had been arrested again.

Shaimaa Zayan, operations manager for CAIR-Austin, said, “CAIR-Texas will continue to fight for the family and the American Muslim community until justice, peace, and equity are achieved.”

CAIR says that the mother of the children, who wears a hijab, has said that she and her family are Palestinians who became American citizens. The mother’s name has not been made public by cops or CAIR.

Police say that the child’s mother told them that Wolf tried to grab her 6-year-old son after asking her where she was from and then grabbed her 3-year-old daughter and put her underwater.

Police say the mother pulled her son out of the pool while his daughter screamed for help and coughed up water.

Both kids were checked out and deemed healthy.

Lawyers in Tarrant County have been asked by Euless police to treat the case as a hate crime. Someone from the office of the district attorney said they are looking into the case.
