Bill That Would Prohibit Transgender People From Using Public Restrooms and Dressing Areas is Currently on Its Way to the Governor's Desk

JACKSON, Mississippi
The “Safer Act,” a piece of legislation that would restrict persons from using restrooms that do not correspond with their biological sex, has been approved by both the House of Representatives and the Senate. It is now on its way to the Governor’s desk to be signed by him.

The legislation, which is sometimes referred to as Senate Bill 2753, would require public facilities to provide either restrooms and changing areas that are exclusively for people of a single gender or unisex places that are specifically designated for the use of individuals.

Immediately following the announcement made by the administration of President Joe Biden regarding the expansion of Title IX to protect members of the LGBTQ+ community, this law was passed.

The expansion of the Biden administration is the subject of a lawsuit filed by the Attorney General of Mississippi, Lynn Fitch.

The final regulations will go into effect on August 1, 2024, and they will apply to accusations of sex discrimination that are related to alleged behavior that takes place on or after that day.

It has been stated by the United States Department of Education that the rule does not apply to sports teams, and they intend to create a separate rule to handle the issue of sex-separate athletic teams.
