Michigan’s Traverse City.Authorities said Sunday that a man who allegedly entered a supermarket and stabbed 11 customers at random before being apprehended by a number of onlookers in the parking lot is likely to be charged with terrorism and multiple assaults.
According to Grand Traverse County Sheriff Michael Shea, it is still unknown what motivated Bradford Gille of Afton, Michigan, to attack. As he was being held by the authorities, Gille, who Shea claimed had a history of assault and controlled substance infractions, said very little. Eleven counts of assault with intent to murder and one count of terrorism are anticipated charges against him. He is still being held at the county jail.

In addition to a group of witnesses who stepped in and arrested Gille in the parking lot, Shea commended the prompt action of law enforcement officials who responded within three minutes of getting the report regarding the stabbing. The terrorist prosecution will be presented since the incident affected the community, not just one person, Grand Traverse County Prosecutor Noelle Moeggenberg told reporters.
“It’s something that is done not to individual people, certainly not to those individual victims, but we believe in some and some ways done to affect the entire community, to put fear in the entire community, and to change how maybe we operate on a daily basis,” Moeggenberg said. “So that is why we are looking at that terrorism charge.”
According to Shea, the 11 victims, who included one Walmart employee, were both men and women with ages ranging from 29 to 84. At a press conference on Sunday, Dr. Tom Schermerhorn, chief medical officer of Munson Medical Center, stated that two patients were in critical condition, the remaining patients were in fair condition, and one patient had been treated and released. Five minutes later, a group of customers, one of whom was brandishing a gun, encircled the man in the parking lot. The man repeated, “I don’t care, I don’t care,” in response to the group of five or six people shouting for him to drop the knife. He continued to back away from the throng until he was attacked and brought down.
Initially, it was incredulity. Carter, who delivers Walmart purchases to customers, said, “I thought maybe it was like a terror attack.” Then came shock, astonishment, and fear. In the parking lot of the shopping mall, which also has a number of other retail establishments, emergency vehicles and first responders in uniform congregated.
