Police said Tuesday that a homeless man in Florida who was dressed as a woman and wanted to “kill everyone” drove a car through the jail on purpose.
They said that 40-year-old Joseph Leedy drove a car through the doors of the Martin County Jail hallway on Tuesday night. Pictures from the sheriff’s office show a Toyota that is halfway inside the jail building and has had its doors ripped off.
Leedy got out of the car after the accident wearing a shirt and no pants. He is said to have put motor oil on the floor and said he wanted to light it on fire.
“He continued making homicidal statements about police officers and expressed his desire to ‘kill everyone’ while he threw rubber snakes on the floor and fought with deputies and fire rescue personnel,” police said.
The damage to the building from the crash was worth a lot of money, but the car could only go halfway into it. At that moment, no one was in the hall.
Police said Leedy was not helpful when he was taken to the hospital while being restrained. He was then sent back to jail.
A police officer was seriously hurt four times, and he was also charged with criminal damage worth more than $1,000.
