As She Drives by a Plymouth School Bus, a Woman Who Almost Hit a Child Will Be Charged

As of Wednesday, police said that the woman who was arrested for almost hitting a child while trying to speed past a Plymouth school bus will be charged.

Police say Brenda Mello, 59, drove her SUV through a yard on Bourne Road on Friday morning to get past the school bus. Video of the incident shows the incident.

The son of Alicia Tallent was walking to the bus stop at the same time as the speeding SUV. He was able to stop in his tracks and barely escape hitting it.

Tallent said, “She didn’t want to wait for any more stops. I think the bus driver said she was beeping at the stops before ours to try to get the bus to move over for her.”

Mello was caught on Wednesday and charged with attack with a dangerous weapon, failing to stop for a school bus, and driving a car without paying attention.

Tallent says her son was pretty scared, but he’s fine now.

Tallent said, “It says right on the back of the bus that it’s illegal to pass. The lights were on, the bus sign was out, and the doors were open for the kids to get on.”

Mello will likely be charged in Plymouth District Court on Wednesday.
