Glendale, AZ – A 27-year-old Arizona woman was fatally shot after being caught in a road rage incident unrelated to her, authorities said. Yarely Ashley Hermosillo was in the passenger seat of her boyfriend’s car when the incident occurred on Saturday night, leaving her 4-year-old son motherless.
Bystander Fatally Shot in Road Rage Incident
According to Glendale Police, Hermosillo and her boyfriend were picking up her mother from work around 11:45 p.m. at the intersection of W. Camelback Road and N. 51st Avenue when a gunshot rang out. The bullet went through the front windshield and struck Hermosillo in the face.
Despite her boyfriend rushing her to the nearest hospital, she did not survive her injuries.
Suspect Fired Randomly During Argument
Police identified 33-year-old Jesus Preciado Dousten as the suspect. Detectives said Dousten had been involved in a road rage confrontation with another driver, during which he allegedly fired a gun in a random direction, striking Hermosillo’s car. Witnesses reported that Dousten appeared intoxicated at the time of the shooting.
Detectives identified Dousten’s vehicle through street cameras and later recovered the alleged murder weapon at a friend’s home, according to the probable cause affidavit.
Suspect’s Criminal History
Dousten faces charges of second-degree murder and aggravated assault, among other crimes. Police noted he had been involved in another road rage incident two months prior, during which he punched another driver in the face.
Glendale police spokesman Jose Santiago told KXNV, “We really wanted to bring this family justice and we were so pleased we were able to get this guy off the street.“
Family Remembers Hermosillo
Hermosillo, who had around 100,000 followers on her food- and recipe-focused TikTok page, is remembered by her family as a devoted mother and loving wife. They have started a GoFundMe to raise funds for her funeral.
Her family’s page reads, “Yarely was a loving wife, a devoted mother, and a beautiful soul whose light touched everyone who knew her. She leaves behind her husband and their 4-year-old son, who now face an unimaginable loss.“
