Pinal County, AZ – An Arizona man will spend the rest of his life in prison for the murder of his estranged wife, Christina Lopez, whom he stabbed more than 40 times in front of their teenage son.
Javier Lopez, 50, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and was sentenced Friday to life behind bars, according to the Pinal County Attorney’s Office. The attack occurred on April 11, 2024, at the couple’s home, shocking the local community and leaving their children without a mother.
Attack Details and Arrest
On the day of the murder, Javier Lopez drove to his wife’s home with their son, asking the teen to stay in the car while he confronted his wife. Once inside, Lopez reportedly questioned Christina Lopez, 43, about seeing another man. When she confirmed she was dating someone else, he became enraged and stabbed her repeatedly, totaling more than 40 times.
The teenager inside the house reportedly heard the commotion and asked his father if he had harmed his mother.
Police responded to the scene and discovered Christina Lopez dead in a pool of blood. Javier Lopez was arrested shortly after the incident and charged with first-degree murder.
Motivation Behind the Crime
According to family members, the couple’s marriage had been deteriorating due to ongoing custody disputes over their three children.
Priscilla Miller, Christina Lopez’s mother, told local media, “He couldn’t take it because he knew he would never get her back.” She added, “The heartbreak is unbearable. It’s not supposed to be this way, at all.”
Official Statements
County Attorney Brad Miller described the murder as “a calculated, premeditated act of murder that robbed a mother of her life and young children of their mother.” He emphasized the office’s commitment to pursuing the strongest penalties for domestic violence cases and said the children will face life without their mother’s love and comfort.
Impact on Family and Community
