As a result of new WARN data, an unexpected business has now announced that it will be laying off 100 people in Maryland.
SpartanNash, a food supplier from Michigan, is closing down an old storage center in Prince George’s County. The company bought the space more than ten years ago as part of a $1.3 billion merger.
There is a retail and wholesale arm of the Grand Rapids-based company. The Landover plant will now be shut down by September 30.
According to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification it sent to the Maryland Department of Labor, 141 people will lose their jobs.
“As part of our ongoing efforts to improve, we regularly look at our supply chain network to find ways to run more smoothly and efficiently,” a company spokesman said in a statement.
“The modifications we’ve made to the way we work have set us up to grow and improve the service we offer our clients.”

A representative for the company said that the work that was done in Landover is now being sent to its other East Coast distribution centers.
Biz Journals says that talks are still going on, but the company is offering affected employees jobs at other facilities if they want them.
