STRATHAM, New Hampshire – After her brakes failed on Route 101 in New Hampshire, a woman was going 60 mph when her car caught fire.
Fire in a car Going 60 mph
Around 7:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Maggie Marchand was driving west on the highway when her car made a loud noise and the brakes stopped working.
“Every light comes on, like “check engine,” “check oil,” “oil dripping,” and so on. I put my foot all the way down on the brake. It would not work. “Oh my gosh,” Marchand said.
At the time, she was going 60 mph and was able to miss other cars while she waited for the car to slow down. Then, the right and left sides of the car started smoking and then caught fire.
Marchand was in charge of the car for five miles and finally stopped it on grass next to an exit ramp. Before the car caught on fire, she jumped out of it.
“At this point, five seconds after I got out of the car, the whole front of the hood is fully engulfed in flames,” he said. “The car is definitely on fire and is a total loss.” At that moment, though, all I could do was stare at that car, which looked like it was on fire. I felt like I could have been in that car.
“Impressed with her driving ability under pressure”
“I cannot be more impressed with her driving ability under pressure and her poise in a life-threatening situation that could easily have injured or killed Maggie – and others around her,” her dad, Steve Marchland, told Facebook.
The girl’s father said she was taken to the hospital with a small burn and smoke inhalation.
“I’m alive and I got out of the car and no one else got hurt and to me, at the end of the day, that’s all that matters,” he said.
There is no information about what went wrong with her car. She told them how thankful she was that two women had stopped and stayed with her until help came.
