Ames Woman Faces Charges for Abandoning 5 Cats Without Food or Water

AMES, Iowa — A woman from Ames is being charged with leaving five cats in an apartment last week without food or water.

The Ames Police Department was called to an apartment complex in the 3500 block of Grand Avenue on August 5 because an animal was being neglected. Court records show that when property management went into a unit that had just been removed, they found five cats left inside.

A criminal complaint says there was an empty bowl on the floor with flies in it, the cats couldn’t get clean food or water, and the room was full of urine and feces.

Police say that 24-year-old Aaliyah Jean Klismith told them that she knew the cats were left at the flat without proper care after she moved out on August 1.

Klismith was caught on Monday and charged with five counts of neglecting an animal that did not hurt it or hurt it seriously or killed it. She is being held at the Story County Jail on a $1,500 bond right now.
