Alabama Dense Fog Advisory: Hazardous Travel Conditions Expected Until 9 AM Saturday

Montgomery, ALAlabama drivers are facing hazardous travel conditions this morning as dense fog reduces visibility to less than half a mile. The National Weather Service has issued a Dense Fog Advisory, in effect until 9 a.m. Saturday.

Fog Advisory Covers Central and Eastern Alabama

According to the National Weather Service in Birmingham, the advisory affects more than 20 counties across central and eastern Alabama, including Etowah, Calhoun, Barbour, and Pike counties. Major cities such as Montgomery, Auburn, Opelika, Troy, and Selma are also under the advisory. Additionally, patchy fog is reported along major highways, including I-65, I-85, and U.S. 231.

Travel Advisory and Safety Tips

Transportation officials have warned that morning commuters could encounter sudden drops in visibility, especially on rural roadways, near rivers, and in low-lying areas. Drivers are advised to:

  • Slow down
  • Use low-beam headlights
  • Maintain extra space between vehicles

Conditions to Improve After 9 AM

The fog advisory is expected to expire by 9 a.m. Saturday as the fog lifts with daytime heating. However, officials have cautioned that similar conditions could develop again overnight into Sunday.
