PHILADELPHIA – Philly cops say they found a man shot in the chest after an accident on Roosevelt Boulevard. The man has since died.
Wednesday just before 1 p.m., police were called to the area of West Roosevelt Boulevard and Old York Road to investigate a shooting.
When the police arrived, they saw a guy in his late 30s who had been shot in the chest. He was taken to a nearby hospital right away but was declared dead not long after.
Police say the person was driving a silver Honda CR-V and was going north on Roosevelt Boulevard when they hit the barrier and another car.
Police say that two bullet holes were found in the back of the Honda CR-V.
The Honda had also crashed in the middle of Roosevelt Boulevard, leaving white marks. The front end was damaged when it hit another car from behind.
“Turns out he was shot through his back and the bullet came out his chest and we know he was in the vehicle when he was shot cause we found a bullet hole through the seat, then that bullet went through the seat, struck him in the back and came out his chest,” said PPD Chief Inspector Scott Small.
For four hours, police blocked off the northbound lanes of Route 1 before Old York Road as they looked for empty bullet shells and tried to figure out where the shooting took place. After being closed for almost five hours, the road was reopened. Detectives did not find any proof or witnesses to the shooting on the road.
Officer in Charge Small said, “We just don’t know where the shooter or shooters were when the shots were fired.”
Police tell FOX 29 that the Honda is registered to a woman in Northeast Philadelphia.
By the start of FOX 29’s 10 o’clock news on Wednesday, cops were still trying to get in touch with the woman to find out who shot and killed the man with her Honda.
Police think that someone may have been on the busy highway at the time and seen cars squabbling on the road right before 1 p.m. It’s possible that someone heard gunshots and can remember any car, since we already saw what happened with the silver Honda.
“The reason for the shooting is unknown,” Small said. “Maybe he was angry about being in the middle lanes; it could have been the Blvd extension going north toward Roosevelt Blvd.”When someone figures out that this was a murder, they may have seen something. It’s possible that they heard shells.
There were no guns found and no one has been arrested.
