The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office reports that a man has been slain after his girlfriend shot and killed him in Tampa early on Wednesday morning. She then escaped to Alabama and turned the pistol on herself, which resulted in the guy’s death.
As a result of receiving a call from a “concerned family member,” deputies were sent to a residence located in the 9200 block of Shellgrove Court at approximately seven minutes before the alarm went off.
Upon entering the residence, the deputies discovered Kelbys Avila, who was fifty years old, had been shot and died from his wound.
Later on, the Houston County Sheriff’s Office revealed that Maira Pacheco Nuñez, who was Avila’s girlfriend, had shot him before escaping the scene. After a brief period of time, a warrant for the arrest of Pacheco Nuñez was issued, charging him with the crime of second-degree murder with a firearm.
According to the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office in Alabama, the vehicle belonging to the 58-year-old individual was recognized and stopped within an hour of the arrest warrant being issued, as stated by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the authorities, that was the moment when Pacheco Nuñez turned the gun on herself.
It is a terrible and awful circumstance that we are in. According to a statement released by Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister, “Our hearts ache for the family of this man whose life was tragically ended.” “The use of violence is never possible. To anyone who is experiencing or suspects that they are a victim of domestic abuse, please keep in mind that assistance is available, and that you are not alone.
When Pacheco Nuñez was stopped on Interstate 10, the member of the Nexstar affiliate WKRG was present at the incident. Several officers can be seen in the footage encircling the vehicle that the woman was driving. A number of hours were lost due to the closure of the highway.
HCSO has not disclosed the circumstances that they believe led up to the shooting.
