KESQ was the first to report that a student died Monday at La Quinta Middle School after having a medical issue.
At 10:11 a.m., Cal Fire was called to the 78-000 block of Avenue 50 in La Quinta for a report of a medical emergency involving a child.
At 10:23 a.m., deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department were sent to help Riverside County Fire. However, the student had already been taken to a nearby hospital by ground ambulance before they got there.
Information about the student’s name or the cause of death was not made public right away. No official word from Desert Sands Unified School District on the death yet, but they did send the following comment through a spokesperson:
“We care deeply about our students and their families, and we promise to respect their privacy during this very hard time,” the statement said. “As more information comes in and with the family’s permission, we will share any information they want to send.”
Students and workers could get counseling and emotional support on Monday to help them deal, and they will still be able to get it in the days to come.
The daily bulletin for the school said that on Tuesday, the deputy principal led a moment of silence.
