The woman was hit in the arm by Kenneth Miles Davis Jr. during the road rage shooting on May 19, 2021, according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia. Police say the woman’s five- and eleven-year-old children were in her car.
One count of assault with intent to kill while armed, three counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, and four counts of having a gun during a violent crime were found guilty by a jury in January. Davis, 45, is a man.
The man’s lawyer, Marnitta L. King, said Davis has already told the court he will file an appeal. “Mr. Davis will keep fighting to show that he is not guilty,” she said.
Police say the fight started around 5 p.m. when Davis, who thought he had been cut off in traffic, got out of his Maserati GranTurismo and shot into the woman’s car.
The man with the gun got out of the car and shot at the woman as she drove away, which was caught on security video. After that, he turned around and directed the gun at people behind him, but then he stepped out of the picture.
Based on what the prosecutor’s office said, Davis fired 13 shots, six at the woman’s car and seven at people nearby. The woman was the only one who was shot. Broken glass hurt the 5-year-old.
In a police picture lineup, the woman whose car was shot said, “I’m positive, my heart is pounding” and “it was him.” This is how Davis was identified by the woman.
Davis wrote a letter to the judge in May that was made public. In it, he said he is innocent and doesn’t think he had a fair hearing.
Prosecutors said on Monday that the driver of a Maserati in Washington, D.C., was given over 32 years in jail for shooting at a woman’s car and then at people who were standing nearby after being cut off.
