Six people, three of whom were children, died in a house fire in Newnan, Georgia, early Monday morning. Five others were hurt.
The deadly fire happened in Coweta County, which is about 40 miles southwest of Atlanta. Authorities are still trying to figure out what caused it.
When the Coweta County fire department got there just before 5 a.m. Monday, they saw that more than half of the house was on fire. A report from the fire department about the chaos at the scene said that there were blasts in the house and people screaming to get out.
A message from the county said that eleven people who were in the house had been found and were safe by 5:16 a.m.
Three boys, ages 6, 12, and 13, were killed. The county said that three other people died: a woman 36 years old, a woman 74 years old, and a guy 74 years old.
The victims’ names have not been made public. The family thanked everyone for the “outpouring of love and prayer” in a message released Monday afternoon.
The message said, “We don’t even know where to begin to rebuild.” “Right now, we need prayers and space to deal with this unimaginable tragedy.”
Fifth of the people who were hurt were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta. The police did not say who they were or how old they were, or they did not give any new information about their situations.
It is being looked into by the county sheriff’s office, the fire department, and the state and county fire marshals.
