A Guy, 21, Was Charged With Burglary After a Shooting in West Ashley Involving a Police Officer

HIGH POINT, S.C.— Police in West Ashley shot and killed a 21-year-old man, who was then charged with burglary first-degree, according to a news statement from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.

The Charleston Police Department found Harper Lawrence-Weiland on Tuesday night while reacting to a call about a man with a gun. An officer shot at Lawrence-Weiland during the fight. Sources tell SLED that neither he nor the police officer were hit by the shots during the fight.

A statement says that Lawrence-Weiland broke into a home on Ashley Crossing Lane on Tuesday before 7:41 p.m. and stole clothes and a handgun.

Then, people who saw the break-in called the cops. That’s when the Charleston cops met Lawrence-Weiland.

Charleston police asked SLED to look into the shooting involving an officer, which led to Lawrence-Weiland’s arrest.
