A family in San Jose, California, is sad about the death of their 6-year-old son King Holguin. King was autistic and didn’t talk, and he was hit by a car on Interstate 280 on Friday, Dec. 13.
King died just two weeks before his seventh birthday.
The boy’s father, who was not named, told the news source Monday, “I just want to hold him.” “I want him back, but I know he’s better now.” He was always friendly and caring, and the house was quiet without him there. But I know I miss him and everyone else does too.
People got a news release from the California Highway Patrol on Wednesday that confirmed a pedestrian “ran into the number three lane” of the northbound freeway that night and was hit by a 36-year-old San Jose resident driving a 2024 Nissan Altima.
The person on the sidewalk was declared dead at a hospital, and the Santa Clara Medical Examiner confirmed that the person was King. His parents told ABC 7 News that they wanted to get in touch with the driver to reassure him that it wasn’t his fault.
Solis Sisneros, King’s main daycare provider, told the news outlet that he liked to run away, especially when it rained. People say that his Parkmoor Avenue flat was close to an exit for the highway.
“He locked the door behind him and left his iPad,” Sisneros told ABC7 News. “He left in the middle of the night when everyone was asleep.” “You know, he just left.” “Everyone was looking for him, but we never thought he’d be on the 405,”
His father said, “I wish I had been there for him that night, and I just want to say sorry.”
In an email to People, the medical examiner stated that King died accidentally from multiple blunt force injuries sustained in the crash. KRON 4 was told by the boy’s family that he didn’t fully understand driving and how dangerous it can be.
Victoria Olivas, King’s mother, told KTVU that her son got past the child safety locks at home and that she didn’t notice he was gone until he was already gone.
A family member named Lydia Holguin has since set up a GoFundMe page to help pay for his funeral.
The fundraiser page says, “Our hearts are very heavy; we would do anything to spend more time with him.” The boy King was friendly, active, daring, stubborn, and loving, and he loved to play and run around all the time. He was full of life.
The Cambrian School District told the community about the death in an open letter on Monday. They sent their “thoughts and heartfelt condolences” to King’s family and friends. KTVU says the six-year-old boy went to Bagby Elementary School in San Jose.
