A California Sheriff's Officer Died on the Job in an Accident While High on Methamphetamine, According to the Police

A Los Angeles County sheriff’s officer who was 41 years old died at a sheriff’s station in April from an overdose of methamphetamine.

Jonathan Stewart passed away because of drugs. The Los Angeles County medical examiner said on April 27 that there is a report. The report said that he died in an accident.

A sheriff’s station was found to be where Stewart died by the medical investigator. Late in April, NBC Los Angeles announced that Stewart had died while on duty at the sheriff’s station in South Los Angeles.

A representative for the sheriff’s office could not be reached right away Thursday to say how Stewart died or if the department was worried before he died that he might have been using drugs. They also could not say if and how often the department tests its workers for drugs.

The sheriff’s office said in a statement on April 29 that Stewart’s death “deeply saddened” them.

It was said that Stewart joined the department in 2006 and graduated from the school the following year.

“He worked for a while in the Inmate Reception Center before being moved to the South Los Angeles Station in 2014,” the sheriff’s office said. “He was promoted to Field Training Officer in 2020 and held that job until he died.” Jonathan worked hard for ten years to help people in South Los Angeles. His coworkers and bosses admired and respected his unwavering dedication. Jonathan’s wife and three children will miss him.
