A man from Valley Center was going 140 mph minutes before he caused a crash involving three cars.
Monday at 10:25 p.m., the accident happened on eastbound Kellogg near Washington. A crash log from the Kansas Highway Patrol shows that the accident happened on Kellogg going east. The cars involved were a 2023 Chevrolet Camaro, a 2016 Hyundai Elantra, and a 2006 Nissan Frontier.
The Camaro was riding in the middle lane and the right lane when it hit the Hyundai in the right lane. It then rolled over and hit the Nissan. The KHP story said that the Camaro landed on its top and the Nissan on the shoulder of the highway.
One minute before the accident, a KHP officer saw the Camaro going 140 mph on I-235. KHP trooper Chad Crittenden said in an email that the policeman wasn’t chasing the car at the time of the crash and didn’t see it happen.
Crittenden also said, “No one knows how fast the car was going when it crashed on Kellogg.”
An injured 21-year-old guy from Valley Center was taken to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis as the driver of the Camaro. Crittenden says that he will likely be charged with several traffic violations in addition to driving while drunk.
The driver of the Hyundai, a 38-year-old guy, and the passenger, a 16-year-old girl, were both taken to St. Francis with different levels of injuries.
The KHP said that the 47-year-old man in the Nissan was not hurt.
