One of the women who was killed’s daughter told Audrey Washington of Channel 2 that her mother was about to break up with her boyfriend, who is thought to be the killer.
His daughter Chanel Carter said, “Taking it second by second, day by day.”
Carter said that she went to her mother’s Vineyard Walk apartment in DeKalb County on Saturday because she hadn’t heard from him or her soon-to-be-sister-in-law, Kaylyn Samuels.
She said that’s when she and a police officer found the horrible thing.
Carter said, “I saw the body on the floor and one of my nieces or nephews was on the bed. That’s when I ran to the front door and kind of shoved it open to see the body on the couch.”
The people who were killed were named by police on Monday as Johnson, Samuels, and Samuels’ two children, Jedorah Powell, 5, and Jontavious Powell, 1.
Jonathan Darden was named by police as the suspect who killed himself.
The neighbors couldn’t believe it.
Analyssa Rivera said, “It makes me nervous, and the thought that two kids could die is pretty upsetting.”
Police think Darden killed the family with a gun before killing himself.
Carter told Channel 2’s Audrey Washington that her mom told a friend not to hang out with Darden.
“What bothers me the most is how little you know someone,” Carter said. “It turns out that my mom texted one of her friends that if anything happened to her, it was him who did it.”
Carter wanted to talk to people who were stuck in a bad situation.
Carter told them to “cut out as soon as you can.”
The police don’t know why.
