She is Iowa’s queen.
It’s safe to say Iowans are proud of Caitlin Clark. She is a force that has restored women’s basketball to prominence.
Time has named her the 2024 Athlete of the Year.
We’ve all known the West Des Moines native was a queen, and she’s smashed scores of records and received high praise on multiple levels. Just check at her stats from her inaugural WNBA season:
Her achievement has demonstrated to many young basketball players, both boys and girls, that such successes are possible. In an interview with Time, she tackles the Angel Reese incident, saying she and Reese are “very respectful of one another” and that “this controversy that was fabricated and made up, and then that has continued to be the case ever since”. She also commented on the Olympic basketball team snub, claiming that it “woke a monster” in her.
Caitlin informed Time about her next steps:
Personally, I’m just scratching the surface of what I can do and hopefully how I can change the world and impact people,” she says. “There’s also been so many people that are not involved in women’s sports, that are just in the workforce, or whatever they do, and they’re just like, ‘Thank you for what you do for women.’ I’ve heard that a million times.
But it is true. Attendance at Indiana Fever games this season (and Iowa Hawkeyes games when she participated) increased dramatically. The WNBA set a record for viewership this year, with over 54 million unique viewers during the regular season.
We adore our Iowa basketball girl!
