An incoming Missouri state senator has sponsored legislation to provide $1,000 to those who report illegal migrants to authorities.
Republican state Sen.-elect David Gregory suggested legislation that would pay $1,000 to anyone who turned in an illegal migrant who was later caught.
SB 72 would authorize the state Department of Public Safety to “develop an information system for people to report violations of this act, which shall include a toll-free telephone hotline, e-mail, and an online reporting portal.”
The bill would also establish the “Missouri Illegal Alien Certified Bounty Hunter Program,” which would enable residents to act as bounty hunters “to find and detain illegal aliens” in the state.
Only bail bond agents and surety recovery agents are eligible to participate in the scheme as bounty hunters.
The measure would also make it a felony to be in the state as an illegal immigrant.
“As I ran for State Senate, I promised to make Missouri a national leader in combating illegal immigration,” Gregory wrote on the social networking platform X.
“Now I’m following through on my promise. SB 72 makes it a criminal to be here illegally, and it will finally allow Missouri law enforcement to locate and arrest illegal immigrants,” he said. “We need all hands on deck to ensure we catch illegal immigrants BEFORE they commit violent crimes.”
President-elect Trump has threatened massive deportations during his second term.
