Zero Texas Fans Caught or Penalized During Georgia Showdown

AUSTIN, Texas — No one was caught or punished in the University of Texas investigation into the bottle-throwing incident that happened during the October game between Texas and Georgia. The incident led to a sharp rebuke and a fine from the Southeastern Conference.

In a report sent to the league last month, Texas officials said that a review of the tape did not show who did it.

Texas and Georgia play each other again in Atlanta for the SEC title. When they played for the first time in Austin, Georgia won 30–15. It was one of the most wild and controversial moments of the college football season. When Longhorns fans didn’t like a call for pass interference, they threw objects onto the field, which quickly stopped the game and gave the officials time to talk about it and change their minds.

The SEC fined the company $250,000 and said they might not allow drink sales at future games. The SEC told the school to find the people who did it and keep them from all school sports events for the rest of the year.

Chris Del Conte, the sports director at Texas, told SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey on November 7 that the school had “reviewed all available video and other sources of information” to try to find the fans who were being disruptive.

“We have not been able to identify the people in question, despite our best efforts.” “We will act if new information that can be used to identify them comes to light,” Del Conte wrote.

Since the report was sent to the SEC, a university spokesman said he didn’t know of any new details or punishments. Del Conte did not answer a text message asking for comment.

Del Conte told the SEC that Texas has increased the number of security cameras and staff watching the student section, made changes to its rules on good sportsmanship and fan behavior, and set up digital messages to support good behavior.

“Pride, fairness, and sportsmanship are what drive us,” Del Conte wrote. “We also expect fans to follow these rules.”
