Man Convicted of Murder Escapes Police Custody in California; Manhunt Underway

According to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, a guy who was being held for murder escaped on Monday and is still being looked for.

The 34-year-old Cesar M. Hernandez got out of a car soon after being taken to court at the Kern County Superior Courthouse in Delano at 10:45 a.m. local time, according to a statement from the corrections department.

The police said Hernandez jumped out of the van when they got there to avoid being caught by staff and is still on the run.

The department said Hernandez is serving a sentence of 25 years to life in prison for first-degree murder, but he may be able to get released.

Hernandez is being looked for with help from the Delano Police Department and other police departments. Police said that people in the area were told to “report any suspicious activity or sightings immediately.”

The prisons department says he is 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighs about 161 pounds, and has black hair, and brown eyes. The last time he was seen, he was wearing a white thermal shirt and an orange jail jumpsuit with stripes.

It’s about 25 miles north of Bakersfield and 130 miles northwest of Los Angeles to find Delano.
