After a shooting in Peoria on Sunday morning, one person died and two police officers were hurt.
Around 7 a.m., Peoria police were called to the area near 91st and Grand avenues after a business owner saw a man breaking into nearby cars while watching video security.
Peoria police say that when they tried to talk to the man, he tried to leave the area in his car. After that, he put his car in reverse and pinned two police officers against another car.
The cops in Peoria said they “fired at least one round” at the man. Officers tried to help but were unable to, and he was pronounced dead on the spot.
Peoria police say that the two cops who were stuck between the cars were taken to a hospital to get help.
Peoria police said Sunday afternoon that the two cops involved only seem to have minor injuries. The police also said that the cops were wearing body cameras that were turned on at the time of the incident.
Peoria police say there is no active danger to the community. The area will be closed off for the day while Buckeye police do their investigation.
The names of the men who died or the police officers who were hurt have not been made public yet.
