A worker was electrified while putting lights on a Christmas tree, which could have killed them.
A 22-year-old man who has not been named was hanging the lights in Wellesley, Massachusetts, on Wednesday morning. He was using a pole to hang lights when it slid too close to an electric line and shocked him, cops said.
The man was taken to Mass General Hospital in Boston right away. He works for NZ Power Wash in a nearby town. As of Wednesday night, he was in very bad shape. An area neighbor hired him to hang the lights, according to ABC News.
Wellesley Police Officer Tim Gover, who arrived at the scene of the crime, said, “He’ll be pretty lucky if he lives.” “He got hit hard.”
Someone who saw him call 911 and say he wasn’t breathing. CBS News reports that his coworker started CPR, and when the cops got there, they took over. When the firemen got there, they used a defibrillator to bring him back to life. NBC reports that it took three tries, but he finally got a pulse again.
The incident is being looked into by OSHA, the local cops, and the Wellesley Municipal Light Plant.
In a statement, the Wellesley Police Department said, “The victim and his family are in our thoughts and prayers during this tragic event.” The Fire Department and the WMLP also said the same thing.
The electric pole does not pose any danger to the public, according to the Wellesley Municipal Light Plant.
USA Today says that last week, Antonio Pascual of Escondido, California was also killed by electricity while putting up Christmas lights. The man, 24, was putting up lights when he threw the string over a high-voltage power line.
The medical examiner’s office said that Pascual was “hanging upside down from a tree” when he was found by paramedics. He died on Thursday from his wounds.
