A Dentist is Being Charged With Trying to Kill a Detective and Poisoning His Wife

DENVER — A dentist is accused of ruining his wife’s protein shakes and then killing her. He is now charged with trying to get another prisoner to kill a detective who was looking into the murder.

Last week, new charges were brought against James Craig: solicitation to commit murder and request to commit perjury. The charging document doesn’t say who Craig allegedly wanted to kill, but late Wednesday night, Joe Moylan, a spokesman for Aurora police, revealed that the person Craig allegedly wanted to kill was a detective from Aurora police.

As of Thursday, online court records did not show that Craig had a lawyer. Harvey Steinberg, Craig’s new lawyer, dropped out of the case on November 21 because of a business conflict. This happened just before Craig was to go on trial for first-degree murder in the death of Angela Craig. After that, the two new charges were brought against Craig the next day.

Craig’s trial has been pushed back forever. Craig has pleaded not guilty and is due back in court on Dec. 16 with a new lawyer.

The inquest said that Angela Craig, 43, died in March 2023 from being poisoned by cyanide and tetrahydrozoline, which is a chemical that can be found in over-the-counter eye drops. They had six kids together and had been married for 23 years.

Craig was also charged with sneaking a letter out of jail with a prisoner who was let out on bond by a parent. Police say it told her to make a fake video of Angela Craig asking Craig to get drugs for her.

He is also accused of asking another prisoner to leave fake journal entries at the Craig home that made it look like Angela Craig killed herself. According to court records, the prisoner said no. Craig’s original defense team said that the prisoner didn’t call the police until after the case’s first hearing, which got a lot of attention from the media.

Attorneys for the prosecution also say Craig tried a more complicated plan to blame his wife. According to court papers, he asked a former cellmate to find pretty women who would agree to say at his trial that they had affairs with him. When Angela Craig found out, they refused to help her frame him.
