Court records show that the 32-year-old woman who was shot by Lubbock police on Sunday called 911 to get help for her boyfriend because she said he was beating her and making threats against her mother.
When the cops arrived, they saw her attack him with a knife.
Shanecqua Renee Newton is still in the hospital on Monday. She is being charged with aggravated attack with a deadly weapon by threat.
The crime is a second-degree felony, which means you could spend two to twenty years in jail for it.
Newton is being charged because she called 911 around 7:45 p.m. and said her boyfriend, Marshundrick Morrison, was drunk and hitting her. This led to an investigation by Lubbock police.
The paper says Newton told the dispatcher that Morrison hit her in the face and held a knife to her mother as a threat.
However, Newton is said to have told the dispatcher that she had a knife and was about to kill Morrison.
When the Lubbock police officer got to the house in the 3600 block of 66th Drive, he saw Newton and Morrison in the front yard.
The eight-year veteran officer of the Lubbock Police Department saw Newton charge at Morrison with a knife, even though he told Newton to drop the weapon.
The affidavit says that Newton was shot several times by the cop to protect Morrison from her.
When the LPD came, they treated Newton at the scene until more medics arrived and rushed her to University Medical Center.
A $100,000 bond has been set for Newton.
