Katie Ledecky’s continued dominance in the pool was one of the best things about Wednesday at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The day had 18 gold events.
The women’s 1500m freestyle event at the 2024 Olympic Games was won by Katie Ledecky on Wednesday night in Paris. She made history again.
The American swimmer had the 19 fastest times in history going into the race. She won her eighth Olympic gold medal in 15:30.02, which was an Olympic record and ten seconds faster than the next person in the race. Jenny Thompson, Natalie Coughlin, and Dara Torres are now tied with Ledecky for the most medals ever won by a U.S. woman (12).
Ledecky said, “I try not to think about the past too much.” “Those are the names of the people I’m with. When I first started swimming, I looked up to them.
“Being named with them is an honor.” I’m thankful that they made me think. A lot of great swimmers have helped me get to this point.
Alyssa Kirpichnikova of France won silver, and Isabel Gose of Germany got bronze.
The player said, “I was shocked.” “I can’t imagine that I am second, right behind Ledecky.”
