Three guys from South Dakota, Wyoming, and Colorado were given prison terms in federal court for planning to sell methamphetamine. Judge Karen E. Schreier of the U.S. District Court gave the punishments.
Chris Janis, 50, from Manderson, South Dakota, also known as “Izzy” Janis, got six years in federal jail followed by three years of being closely watched.
Richard Glover, 43, from Denver, Colorado, was given a sentence of 17 years and 6 months in federal jail, followed by five years of being closely watched while he was free. The third man, Dustin Fiala from Gillette, Wyoming, has not yet been sentenced.
The sentences are related to a large-scale operation that sold methamphetamine in several states, such as South Dakota, Wyoming, and Colorado. A police investigation showed that the guys planned to sell a lot of methamphetamine in Rapid City and on the Pine Ridge Reservation.
U.S. Attorney Alison J. Ramsdell revealed the sentences and praised the work of many law enforcement agencies that worked together to bring the case to justice.
United Narcotics Enforcement Team (UNET), the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and the Bureau of Indian Affairs all looked into the case. The Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, the Rapid City Police Department, the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation, the South Dakota National Guard, and the South Dakota Highway Patrol are all part of UNET.
Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) is a program that brings together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to make neighborhoods safer and lower violent crime. This case is being looked into and prosecuted as part of PSN.
