A news report says that US Customs and Border Protection officers at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport took drugs from the same traveler twice in one week.
The first seizure happened on July 14 when a 43-year-old guy was sent to police for a second check after arriving on a flight from Amsterdam. Police found more than “12 pounds of ketamine in both liquid and powdered form, nearly two pounds of codeine, and nearly three ounces of Gamma Hydroxybutyrate” during the search.
A public information officer said that the man put the drugs in bottles that were meant to hold other things, like rubbing alcohol.
The man, a member of the United States, was caught and given to the Port of Seattle Police Department.
Soon after, the man-made bail and tried again to get on a flight to London, according to officials. More than half a pound of ketamine was found in his packed bag by Border Patrol.
The police have seized more than 43,000 drugs so far this year, according to the service.
“CBP agents at the Seattle Tacoma International Arrivals Facility work hard to keep our community’s streets free of dangerous drugs.” “CBP officers also use their special border search powers to stop people from taking dangerous drugs out of the U.S., which stops a threat to other countries,” said Brian Humphrey, who is in charge of field operations for the CBP office in Seattle.
“Our officers work hard to protect our country’s air, land, and sea borders,” Humphrey said. “They are led by Seattle Area Port Director Rene Ortega.”
Officials say the man is now being charged under Washington state law for having ketamine with the plan to sell it.
