It’s WSFA in Montgomery, Alabama. Six people have been charged by the U.S. Department of Justice in connection with a cocaine distribution case. One of them is an Alabama state trooper.
In Montgomery, a federal grand jury returned charges against these people:
- Jim Carter Jr., 57, of Montgomery
- Rafael Lopez, 38, from Texas
- Maria Beatriz Palomo-De Lopez, 40, is from Mexico.
- She is 63 years old and lives in Deatsville.
- He is 37 years old and from Union Springs.
Police officer Michael Anthony Evans, 52, from Montgomery, Alabama
All six are charged with planning to sell drugs. Also charged are Jim Carter, Lopez, and Palomo-De Lopez with having cocaine with the purpose of selling it.
The accusation also says that Palomo-De Lopez came back to the US illegally after being sent back to Mexico in 2013.
From an unknown start date to at least June 10, 2024, according to U.S. Attorney Jonathan S. Ross, the plot would not end. The accusation also says that Carter and Lopez are each in charge of at least 5 kg of cocaine that was used in the plot.
The alleged part of Evans was not given.
The Justice Department says that Carter and Lopez could each get 10 years to life in jail for the amount of cocaine they had. The other people charged could get up to 20 years in prison.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency says Evans, who is a senior policeman, had to go on leave right away after being arrested.
