BUNCOMBE COUNTY, N.C. —
Now that it has been confirmed that Vice President Joe Biden has COVID-19, the President is not the only person who has it.
In the summer, health professionals in Western North Carolina see more COVID-19-related contacts.
Many people have asked about tests, the vaccine, and when the new vaccine will be available, said Jane Maney, manager of the pharmacy at Weaverville Prescription Pad. “We got a lot of calls today.” They asked if we had tests for COVID.
Sarah Banks, who is in charge of health in Haywood County, said, “We’re starting to do more tests.” “More calls are coming in now.” When we see good things, the first thing that comes to mind is teaching the community. In the past two weeks, there have been more calls from people in the neighborhood about symptoms and how to stay alone when they test positive.
Is the virus spreading again now that more people are getting in touch?
“COVID is a little bit higher,” Maney said. “Some people have it, but I don’t think a lot of people have it.”
Both Haywood County and Buncombe County feel the same way. News 13 was told by both departments that there is no breakout.
The cases of COVID-19 were stopped being tracked by health departments in 2023. However, the virus that caused a global pandemic is getting more attention than normal. It could be the same reason for everyone, not just the President.
“The president is just one example, but where has he been the past few days?” Banks asked. “Those big groups are where our minds want to be.” The question is, “How many people were exposed to those 50 positive cases?”
People see big events like Fourth of July parties, summer barbecues, and other meetings as chances to spread the word.
The most recent version of the COVID-19 vaccine can be bought at local pharmacies and health offices. The most recent version will be available sometime in the fall.
Banks said, “If you’re going to a party or other gathering, move it outside.” “Be careful and take precautions for yourself and the people around you if you’ve been exposed.” Because we don’t see the big jumps like we used to, I think a lot of people think COVID is gone.
Many also said, “A lot of people think they have a summer cold.” “They might not even test, which would unintentionally put some people at risk.” You need to watch out for people. “Don’t go in those crowds if you don’t feel good.”
