A driver in Orange County hit and ran over three kids and two adults who were riding bikes Sunday night, police said.
Orange County Fire Capt. Greg Barta said the hit-and-run happened around 7:30 p.m. near Haster Street and Lampson Avenue in Garden Grove.
Adults and kids were riding bikes, and KCAL footage from above shows that at least some of the kids were being pulled behind one of the bikes by a trailer.
It’s not clear what caused the crash. Garden Grove police Sgt. Nick Jensen said that the driver ran away but was later caught by police. The driver, a guy, was not named, and it wasn’t clear late Sunday night if he had been officially booked on charges.
Barta said that one child was taken to a nearby trauma center in serious condition. He said that two kids and two adults were taken to the hospital and were in safe condition.
Traffic cops from Garden Grove were at the spot late Sunday night looking into what caused the accident, Jensen said. He said, “The investigation is still going on.”
