Frederick Anthony Forbes, a 52-year-old man from Georgia, was found guilty of conspiracy to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine and possession with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine. He was given a sentence of 168 months in federal jail. This was said by Jason R. Coody, who is the US Attorney for the Northern District of Florida.
U.S. Attorney Coody said, “Our local, state, and federal law enforcement partners work hard to keep us safe by getting rid of dangerous and addictive drugs from our communities.” “They are still going to get help from us by investigating and harshly prosecuting drug traffickers in North Florida.” As shown by the sentence, hurting our citizens through illegal drug trafficking has serious repercussions.
A long-running plot was found out.
The proof shown in court showed that Forbes, who had been convicted of cocaine trafficking in 1994, had been working with other people for a long time to distribute cocaine. This plot used coded language and counter-surveillance to avoid being caught. They used a professional trucking company as a front for their drug trafficking activities.
“Drug trafficking tears apart our communities, and drug dealers like Mr. Forbes care more about making money than protecting the lives of our people,” said Deanne Reuter, Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Miami Field Division. “This investigation shows that the DEA is committed to working with our law enforcement partners to ensure that people who harm the health and safety of Florida communities are held responsible for their actions.”
A lot of evidence and seizures
It was found through evidence, surveillance, wiretap intercepts, and the seizure of two kilograms of powder cocaine from Forbes in September 2022 that Forbes was in charge of buying, delivering, and selling cocaine. He sold things to sellers in the Northern District of Florida and other places.
As a result of the investigation, almost four kilograms of powder cocaine were taken from Forbes and his partners. Additionally, a commercial tractor-trailer that Forbes used to move drugs was seized and forfeited, and two partners were charged and found guilty.
Prosecution and prison time
Forbes will be supervised for 10 years after he gets out of jail. This will make sure that he doesn’t do anything else illegal.
The Drug Enforcement Administration, the Gainesville Police Department, the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, and the Florida Highway Patrol worked together to investigate the case. David Byron, an assistant US attorney, led the case’s prosecution.
