A jail officer in Florida was arrested after calling 911 to complain about a traffic ticket he got for honking his horn too many times while driving to “go faster.”
Douglas Morse, 34, from the Polk Correctional Institute, was pulled over by a Polk County sheriff’s officer around midnight on Sunday near Recker Highway and Avenue G NW in Winter Haven. This was reported by the sheriff’s office to FOX 35 Orlando.
The deputy heard Morse say that he was honking his horn a lot because it “makes him drive faster,” according to the sheriff’s office.
The deputy said that after the ticket was given, Morse got angry and cursed at the officer before calling 911 to complain about the ticket.
The deputy told Morse to hang up the phone, but he refused and said he didn’t think he deserved the ticket, the sheriff’s office said.
After the officer tried to pull Morse out of his car by grabbing his arm, the sheriff’s office said Morse pulled away and refused to be arrested.
According to the sheriff’s office, Morse was arrested for calling 911 in the wrong way and fighting arrest.
FOX 35 reported that the Florida Department of Corrections was told that Morse had been arrested.
“People who work in the public service industry need to behave more professionally,” Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd told FOX 35. “And dialing 911 because you are upset that you received a traffic citation is not only ridiculous, it ties up an emergency line and resources that are designated for those who have true emergencies.”
