In Missouri, a police K-9 cop died after being left in a hot car. The death is being looked into.
In a news release sent to PEOPLE on June 26, Savannah Police Chief David Vincent said that K-9 Horus had died. The dog died on June 20 “after completing an overnight shift on patrol in Savannah,” according to the news release.
In the release, cops did not say how Horus died, but they told Fox 21 that the dog died after being left in a hot car. People called the Savannah Police Department to get more information, but they didn’t get back to them right away.
The statement says that the death of Horus is currently being looked into.
The chief said in the release, “Because this is still an open investigation, no more information will be made public until the investigation is over.” “Please keep the whole department in your thoughts and prayers as we deal with the loss of our partner Horus.”
A Facebook post from the police force said that Horus, a German Shepherd, had been working for them as a K-9 officer since February 2021.
When asked about Horus’ death, Andrew County Prosecuting Attorney Monica J. Morrey told PEOPLE that she had asked the Missouri State Highway Patrol to do a special probe.
It was with great sadness that the Andrew County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office learned of K-9 Horus’ death, according to a statement released on June 23. “We appreciate what he did for our community.”
The statement went on to say, “I have asked the Missouri State Highway Patrol to do a special investigation.” I will wait for the results of this review before deciding what steps need to be taken.
