FOLLY BEACH, S.C. —
A South Carolina judge gave more than $1 million to the people who were hurt in an accident that killed a bride on her wedding night.
Last year, a car hit a golf cart from behind, hurting the groom and two other people.
The Crab Shack, The Drop-In Bar and Deli, and Snapper Jacks are some of the Folly Beach bars that were involved in the case that was settled on Thursday.
But not all of the defendants had made a settlement yet. The case against Taco Boy and Jamie Komoroski, who is accused of causing the accident, is still going on.
El Gallo Bar and Grill was also named as a defendant in the claim, but the case was dropped when they showed proof that Komoroski did not buy alcohol there the night of the crash.
Since Komoroski was driving a hire car and going 40 miles per hour over the speed limit, Enterprise hire Car also settled.
Judge Roger Young was in charge of the hearing and talked about how hard it can be to go through a wrongful death case.
“There is no way to bring back people and it seems like its not enough to put a dollar amount on it,” he said.
As of now, it is not known what the next step is in the lawsuit to settle with Taco Boy and Komoroski.
Komoroski is still being charged with crimes, and a sentencing date has not been set.
