COLORADO – The Biden Administration’s approval of $800 million in government funds gave Colorado’s plan to make high-speed internet access almost universal a big boost.
Governor Jared Polis talked about how important this funding is and how important reliable internet is for the state’s business and basic services.
The state has had a hard time getting internet service to all homes. Because of the high prices, rural homes have been left out in particular. The money comes from the Internet Equity, Access, and Deployment Program, part of the Infrastructure Act. Its goal is to make internet access better by filling in service gaps.
In July, the State of Colorado will let people comment on rules and project area maps. By August, they hope to be able to start giving money to broadband infrastructure projects. As part of this attempt, a $30-per-month plan is being considered as a way to help lower the cost of internet access for consumers.
