SULPHUR, La. — Authorities say a man’s dog attacked and killed a woman in the parking lot of a grocery store in Sulphur. The woman was taken to the hospital and the man was arrested.
A GoFundMe page set up by Elsa Davila’s daughter, Savanna Gonzales, says that she was bitten by a dog whose owner was begging for money near the Sulphur Walmart store on June 2.
Gonzales said, “After my mom went grocery shopping, she saw this guy begging for money over here. She went to give him some money, and on her way back, the dog, I guess, broke the leash and attacked her.”
Authorities say 37-year-old Kyle Smith is being charged with trespassing, animal abuse, and illegally owning a dangerous dog.
Gonzales says that the dog bit Davila in the face and stomach.
Her GoFundMe page said, “She has had reconstructive surgery on her face and is now on the road to recovery.”
Gonzales said in a June 6 post to the GoFundMe page that her mother has been told she can’t talk or eat.
“My mom is in a good mood and talks a lot, even though things are tough.” (This is killing her; everyone who knows her knows she likes to talk.) “Talking seems to make things worse,” she said.
It has raised $2,466 of its $5,000 goal as of Monday afternoon.
