WINFIELD TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A report came in that someone said they were Cherrie Mahan, the 8-year-old girl who disappeared from a bus stop in 1985. The Pennsylvania State Police are looking into the story.
Cherrie hasn’t been seen in 39 years since she was last seen in Winfield Township, Butler County.
Now, the State Police are looking into it because a woman said on social media that she was Cherrie Mahan.
The woman made her claim in a Facebook group last month.
Her family doesn’t believe her, but State Police are working with an agency from another state to identify the woman who is making the claim.
A service from another state is trying to find the woman because the State Police have not been able to get in touch with her.
She was last seen getting off her school bus on February 22, 1985, on Cornplanter Road in Winfield Township. Police think that a bright blue 1976 Dodge van with a picture of a skier and a mountain on it may have something to do with her missing.
It’s hard to solve this case, say state police because so much time has passed.
Over the years, three other women have said they are Mahan.
People who have knowledge that helps make an arrest, solve the case, or find Mahan can still get $5,000.
