Police say a man threw something “flammable” at a stranger at a New York City subway stop, setting the stranger’s shirt on fire. The man has been arrested.
The New York Police Department says Nile Taylor, 49, is charged with eight counts, including assault, arson, and reckless endangerment after he threw something flammable at a 23-year-old woman and set her shirt on fire. Police say the victim didn’t know the suspect.
At 2:45 p.m. on Saturday, the accident happened as a train was pulling up to the Houston Street stop in Manhattan. Police in New York City said the suspect ran away but was later caught nearby.
The man was burned on the upper torso and was taken to the hospital, where he is still in stable condition, according to cops.
On Sunday, police said a 22-year-old woman was also hurt, but it wasn’t clear what kind of situation she was in or what injuries she had.
For what the NYPD says was a similar crime earlier this year, Taylor is a suspect.
The NYPD said in March that Taylor was arrested separately on Sunday in connection with the incident on February 5 evening. He is accused of throwing a “lit container of flammable liquid” at a group of people who were standing on the southbound 1 train platform at the West 28th Street station in Manhattan.
The NYPD said that Taylor is being charged with attempted assault, reckless endangerment, and arson for that event. There were no reports of accidents.
The NYPD didn’t know anything about the suspect’s possible reason for doing either crime.
The suspect’s court date has not yet been set by the police, and it is not known if he has hired a lawyer. CNN has tried to find Taylor’s lawyer of choice.
