KENNER, Louisiana – In a confrontation with a guy who was subsequently killed by a police sharpshooter, three Louisiana police officers were injured by gunfire on Sunday, according to authorities and press sources. The suspect was later slain by the police sharpshooter.
WGNO-TV reported that Sheriff Joseph Lopinto stated that a sniper from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office shot and killed the suspect at a house in Kenner. The suspect had also fired rounds at law enforcement authorities after shooting three cops who attempted to enter the property. Lopinto stated that the suspect had held off the police and fired gunfire at them.
Chief Keith Conley of the Kenner Police Department stated that the injured policemen were sent to a hospital after being shot early on Sunday morning in Kenner, which is located approximately 25 kilometers (about 15 miles) west of New Orleans.
Mr. Cunningham, a spokesman for the Kenner Police Department, stated that the individual was wanted in connection with a gunshot that occurred earlier on Sunday and resulted in two persons being injured.
According to WGNO, all of the casualties, including the three police officers and the other two victims, were described as being in stable condition.
The individual was also a suspect in a holdup and shooting that took place on Tuesday, according to Cunningham, which resulted in a man being in serious condition.
