On Thursday, Donald Trump will be back in court in New York for the third day of his hush-money trial. This is also the third day of the process of choosing the jury for one of the most publicized criminal cases in US history.
So far, seven people have been chosen after being heavily questioned about their political views, personal lives, and social media posts. This was done to choose who would be on the jury that would be judging a former US president who is now almost certain to win the Republican nomination for president in 2024.
One more judge and five more jurors must still be picked. At this point, an IT worker, an English teacher, a cancer nurse, a salesperson, a software engineer, and two lawyers have been chosen.
The show is going on in downtown Manhattan, and it’s getting a lot of attention from around the world because Trump is the first former president to be charged with a crime. He is accused of lying about campaign expenses paid to hide bad news during the 2016 election.
Some of them are payments to Stormy Daniels, a former adult actress, and Karen McDougal, a former Playboy model, who both say they had affairs with Trump.
Trump has pleaded not guilty to 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in order to keep scandalous stories from coming out during his winning 2016 campaign for the White House. He says the stories are not true.
Trump is also being tried for what he did on January 6 and his alleged attempts to rig the 2020 election in Georgia. He is also being charged with keeping secret papers at his Florida resort, Mar-a-Lago, after he left office. Unfortunately, those cases have been put off more than once because Trump’s lawyers want to wait to go to court until after the election in November.
Even with all of these legal problems, Trump easily won the Republican nomination for 2024 and has no real opponents left. He is also in a close race with Joe Biden. He often leads in head-to-head polls and is doing well in the key swing states he needs to win a second term as president.
