Apr. 16—The Spokane Police Department says a woman, 27, hit and killed a 70-year-old man with the truck he was using to pick her up last week near Spokane International Airport.
In a news statement, police said that Alyssa K. Bray was later caught by deputies from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office after she ran away from them while drunk.
She was first taken to the Lincoln County Jail on charges of DUI and trying to get away from a police car. Then, on Tuesday, Bray was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder and taken to the Spokane County Jail.
The guy who died was named Gerald R. Fox by the Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office, cops said.
At 7:15 p.m. on April 9, police were called to the area of West Sunset Frontage and South Grove roads to find a person who might be dead on the side of the road. Officers found Fox, a partly dressed dead man who looked like he had been hit by a car and thrown into a nearby fence.
Soon after the body was found, several people called 911 to say they saw a truck driving badly on U.S. Highway 2 in Airway Heights. Police say that even though detectives found out that Fox owned the car, they were not able to find it for that reason.
Major Crimes detectives found that it was likely that the driver who hit Fox on Sunset Frontage Road did it on purpose.
While police were on the scene, someone called the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office to report that the driver of the truck might be drunk. At that time, there was no link between Fox’s death and the driver who was thought to be drunk.
After more research, cops found that Bray was walking on Sunset Highway on the night of April 9 when she agreed to ride with Fox in his truck. Investigators think Bray soon took Fox’s car and hit him on purpose.
On Tuesday night, Bray stayed in the Spokane County Jail on a $1 million bond.
Last year, Fox admitted to having child pornography and was given a 15-month prison term. This happened after housekeepers at a Spokane hotel found child pornography photos in a room Fox had rented. At the same time as that term, he was also found guilty of having child pornography in his home at an RV park in north Spokane in 2022.
