Judge and Wife Shot at Home in Lafayette After Shooter Spoke to Victims, Suspect Still at Large

Lafayette, Indiana – The gunman who wounded a local judge and his wife during a shooting Sunday afternoon spoke to them at their front door before opening fire, according to police dispatch audio obtained by Fox News Digital.

Shooter Spoke Before Opening Fire

Dispatch audio indicates the suspect knocked on the door of the home of Steven Meyer and his wife, Kimberly Meyer, and said, “We have your dog,” before firing a gunshot through the door. The incident occurred at the couple’s residence on Mill Pond Lane at approximately 2:15 p.m.

Steven Meyer was struck in the arm, while Kimberly Meyer suffered a gunshot wound to the hip. Both were transported for medical care and were listed in stable condition following treatment.

Investigation Remains Active, No Arrests Announced

Authorities have not confirmed how many shots were fired, though shell casings were recovered at the scene. No arrests have been made, and police have not released a suspect description.

The case remains an active, multi-agency investigation involving the Lafayette Police Department, Indiana State Police, Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office, West Lafayette Police Department, Tippecanoe County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Judge’s Identity Confirmed by State Judiciary

Steven Meyer serves as a judge on the Tippecanoe Superior Court. His role was confirmed in reporting citing a letter from Indiana Chief Justice Loretta H. Rush sent to judges statewide.

Victim Thanks First Responders and Investigators

Following the shooting, Kimberly Meyer issued a statement through police expressing gratitude to law enforcement and emergency personnel.

“I have great confidence in the Lafayette Police Department’s investigation and want to thank all the agencies involved for their work,” she said. “We are also incredibly grateful for the outpouring of support from the community; everyone has been so kind and compassionate.”

City Leaders Condemn the Violence

Lafayette Mayor Tony Roswarski described the incident as a “senseless, unacceptable act of violence” and said city leaders would continue supporting law enforcement efforts until the suspect is identified and apprehended.
