Southwestern Indiana Man Arrested After Large Drug and Firearm Seizure in Carlisle

CARLISLE, Ind. — A southwestern Indiana man is facing multiple felony charges after law enforcement officers seized a large quantity of drugs, firearms, and cash during a search of his home in Sullivan County.

Arrest Warrant Served in Carlisle

According to the Indiana State Police (ISP), officers from the ISP Putnamville District and the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Department went to a residence in Carlisle to serve a county arrest warrant on Oscar McCammon, 61, related to an earlier possession of methamphetamine case.

Authorities said the arrest warrant was served without incident, and McCammon was taken into custody peacefully at his home.

Search Warrant Obtained Following Arrest

After serving the warrant, officers said they developed probable cause to believe additional criminal activity was occurring inside the residence. Based on those observations, investigators obtained a search warrant for the property.

Once the search was executed, law enforcement uncovered a significant amount of illegal drugs, weapons, and other items commonly associated with drug trafficking.

Drugs, Firearms, and Cash Seized

During the search of McCammon’s home, officers seized:

  • 92 grams of methamphetamine
  • Approximately one pound of marijuana
  • One hypodermic syringe
  • Six prescription pills classified as legend drugs
  • 15 firearms
  • Cash
  • Drug paraphernalia
  • Synthetic urine

Investigators noted that the quantity of drugs and the presence of firearms were consistent with drug dealing activity, rather than personal use.

Charges Filed Against Suspect

McCammon was formally arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine. In addition, he was preliminarily charged with multiple felony and misdemeanor offenses, including:

  • Dealing methamphetamine
  • Possession of marijuana
  • Violent felon in possession of a firearm
  • Dealing a controlled substance
  • Possession of a hypodermic syringe
  • Possession of a legend drug
  • Possession of synthetic urine

Court records will determine which charges are formally filed following the preliminary hearing process.

Law Enforcement Response

Lt. David Cox, Putnamville District Commander, praised the efforts of officers involved in the case.

“Officers went beyond just executing an arrest warrant and took drugs and guns out of Sullivan County, making it a safer community,” Cox said.

Officials emphasized that removing both illegal drugs and firearms from circulation helps reduce the risk of violence and drug-related harm within the region.

Public Asked to Report Drug Activity

Indiana State Police continue to encourage residents to report suspected drug activity in their communities. Anyone with information related to illegal drugs is asked to contact the Indiana State Police Putnamville Post at 765-653-5272.

Authorities say tips from the public often play a crucial role in disrupting drug distribution networks and improving local safety.

Community Context

Carlisle is located approximately 110 miles southwest of downtown Indianapolis and is part of Sullivan County, an area where law enforcement agencies have increased efforts to combat methamphetamine distribution and firearm-related offenses.

Ongoing Investigation

The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges could be filed as the case progresses through the court system. McCammon is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

Residents are encouraged to stay alert and report suspicious activity as part of ongoing efforts to keep southwestern Indiana communities safe. Share your thoughts or experiences in the comments below.
