Harrisburg, PA – A 13-year-old boy returning home from school made a horrific discovery when he found his mother dead on the bathroom floor and his stepfather lying on top of her, drenched in blood, according to investigators.
Harrisburg police say 31-year-old Violette Pierre, a mother of three, was stabbed to death inside her home on November 25. Her husband, Rocheny Clerge, is accused of killing her before attempting to take his own life with a deep neck wound.
Teen’s Frantic Escape Leads to 911 Call
According to the arrest affidavit, the boy entered the home and immediately ran back outside, “frantically” sprinting down the street to alert a neighbor, who then called 911. He later told officers that his parents argued frequently and had been fighting that same morning before he left for school.
Police say Pierre had expressed intentions to leave Clerge the day before the killing.
What Officers Found Inside the Home
When officers entered the bathroom, they discovered Pierre underneath Clerge’s body. Both were covered in blood. A large knife was found nearby in a baseboard heater.
Officers described Clerge as still moving when they arrived. They pulled him off Pierre and administered lifesaving aid. He had a significant laceration on the side of his neck but survived and was transported to a hospital for advanced care.
Home security footage obtained during the investigation reportedly shows the teen leaving for school around 8:30 a.m. and returning later that afternoon. Just seconds after stepping inside, he can be seen rushing out in distress. Video also captured an uncle taking Pierre’s two younger children to school that morning while an argument was occurring inside the home.
Police Determine Cause of Death
Harrisburg police said that through interviews, video evidence, and forensic findings, investigators concluded that Clerge was responsible for Pierre’s death.
“During the course of the investigation, it was determined that Clerge was responsible for the death of the victim,” the Harrisburg Police Department said in its press release.
Charges and Upcoming Court Hearing
Clerge has been charged with first-degree murder and possession of an instrument of a crime. He is currently being held without bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for December 23.
Growing Concerns Over Domestic Violence
While the investigation continues, officials note that domestic violence remains a significant threat to families nationwide. Pierre’s son told investigators the couple fought “all the time,” a pattern that advocates say is common in escalating domestic situations.
